Well I haven't blogged in awhile, so I just wanted to add a few new things that I'm into. First, I don't know if I mentioned, but last July I dropped my Sony Camera. I had gotten it for Christmas '04 or '05?? Anyways, it was time for an upgrade, but since there technically wasn't anything wrong with my camera I didn't see the point in buying one. WELL, at a family function I ACCIDENTALLY dropped my camera and it just never really recovered. The battery door broke so I had to use a rubberband to keep it shut. I probably could've dealt with that, but for some reason the function would change mid-picture click and it would mess up the picture! Some moments just can't be recaptured and so FINALLY Taei bought me a new camera!!
Isn't she a beauty!! I also want to add that the above picture was taken with my camera phone! At 5.1 megapixels, my camera phone is pretty awesome too! Unfortunately the camera phone doesn't do so well in the dark, there's a flash, but it just doesn't compare to a camera flash. If not I would've just used my camera phone! LoL!! I did switch to this Casio because I got an AWESOME deal on Costco.com. I was hesitant after using my Sony for the past 4+ years... I felt very loyal and LOVED the quality of my pictures. But the Sony I want is closer to $300 (on Amazon.com no less) and this puppy ended up costing $150 from Costco, plus I got a free 2 GB memory card. So far...I like it!!
Next up...
I bought these plates and place mats about a month ago, but just never got around to setting it up. I love the bright colors against my dark dining table. We hardly ever eat on our dining table. We use it mostly when we have company, but on an everyday basis we either sit at our kitchen counter or on the sofa...I know, I know! So bad...but since I spent all this money on my dining table I thought I could decorate her up!! I was surprised how much Taei liked it. I want to go to Pier 1 and get bigger candles and a centerpiece for the table. The candles I have there now were in my Powder room and are too small for the effect I'm going for! I'll update with more pictures when I do that!
And finally...
So a few weeks ago Taei tells me that he really wants some fresh baked bread. He didn't know that I use to bake bread all the time for a church service project in high school. So I surprised him one night with two YUMMY loaves of fresh bread! After talking to a coworker about my new hobby, she mentioned she had a breadmaker at home that I was welcome to have!! THANKS PATTI!! So here she is!!
It's a pretty simple machine, but fits our needs perfectly! You can't really see in the window, but I baked a cinnamon raisin loaf! It tasted pretty good, but I think I need to pick up some bread flour. I noticed my loaves coming out a bit on the tougher side and I think that's probably why!! But now I'm obsessed! I want to bake all kinds of breads...banana, mango, french, wheat, sourdough...Hopefully I can keep you posted on that as well!
Well that's a couple of things I've been up to in the last month! Ciao!
P.S.
The dining table and breadmaker photos were taken with my camera phone. I was too lazy to walk back upstairs to get my new camera, but as you can see the pictures aren't the best even with just a slightly little less lighting, so I needed my new camera. Too bad I was being lazy about getting it! LoL!
This morning I poured out my cup of Multigrain Cheerios (which taste exactly like Honey Nut Cheerios, so I was stoked!), grabbed the milk, AND WITHOUT EVEN THINKING I shook the container, then poured milk into my cereal.
While I was enjoying (and I must admit quite proud of myself for such a good breakfast selection...) my bowl of cereal I wondered, "Why do people shake the milk?" I can see shaking orange juice, cuz if you got the pulp, you wanna make sure its swirling and you get a bit of the action. I can even see when people shake yogurt cups, cuz alot of times the fruit will settle at the bottom, and the same goes for salad dressings, but MILK??? So I looked it up...
What I found is that non-homogenized milk still contains the milk fat which can appear lumpy and creamy on top of the milk, so, if you're drinking non-homogonezied milk you may want to shake it around so that the milk fat re-mixes into the milk. Some people choose to scoop the milk fat out. You sometimes see the milk fat in breast milk and you can serve it to your little one, but you'll want to "swirl" it around, not shake it.
So for the rest of us homogenized, non-breast milk drinking people, we don't have to shake the milk...lol!
I've seen this type of thing on other blogs...either in the form of blog spam where you "tag" people or just a regular blog like "Things on Tuesday" so this is my own lil version of it. See some days I wanna blog...I wanna connect with my peeps...but I have nothing to blog about. Haven't eaten anything new, watched anything interesting, or what...so what do I do?? I figured on those days I'll try and thing of one thing that I'm thankful for. And I mean something a bit different...not the whole, my husband, my family, my job deal...but something I appreciate, but in most cases don't give too much thought to! So today, I'm thankful for...
M&M's!!! Peanut M&M's to be more exact! I know, it's a crappy picture...sorry...I was feelin' a bit lazy to take out my camera so this is a pix from my crappy camera phone! LoL!! Hopefully I can blog about my new phone...not until December...but ANYWAYS!!
I'd like to say that I'm thankful for M&M's not necessarily my favorite candy, but a yummy one nonetheless. I particularly like the contrast of sugar and salt...I like to carefully take apart the candy shell and chocolate from the whole peanut and eat the peanut last!
Just a random thought...watch out for more random weirdness!!
Today was a weird day...normally Saturdays is just acupunctre, maybe lunch, and some grocery shopping, but today was completely out of the norm! It started off with an appointment for me to leave some blood for an upcoming doctors appointment. I normally go as soon as the clinic opens, but for one reason or another I didn't get there until 10 am...BAD MOVE! There was about 20 people in front of me and 2 very slow phlebologist!! I learned a new word while waiting...phlebologist are those who draw blood! LoL!!
So afterwards I grabbed some lunch with Tiff and then off to acupuncture!! Taei couldn't make it today so Dr. O gave Tiff a free treatment...how cool is that!?!?!
After that I wanted some ice cream and after having read Cat's Blog on Bubbie's Ice Cream I wanted to check out that place...but Tiff remembered the Korean Festival was taking place at Kapiolani Park so we headed on over!! Check out some shots of the day...
There was alot of people there, but we were luckily enough to get a parking stall right along side Kapiolani Park and just a bit up from the festival. Of course there were tons of cool cultural stuff...
My favorite part of the Korean Festival?? The FOOD!!
So in order to buy food you had to first buy scrips. They sold scrips in packs of 10 with each worth a $1. They had all kind of korean plates, plus roasted corn, kahuku shrimp, Waiola shave ice...but I was still full from lunch!! I didn't know I was coming to the festival...had I known, I would've skipped lunch and just had a light snack. But I did buy some mandoo, roasted corn, and I got a free drink!
They had 8 bouncers...lined up in a row! I don't know if you had to pay scrips to go on them or not. The weather was warm, but if you sat/stood in the shade, the tradewinds kicked in and it was cool.
Then after that I ended up going to a graduation party!! Tiff's twin cousins graduated from Castle High School...it was fun being around "family" again...even though they weren't my family!
They even had Kamaka Fernandez, the Arkansas born Hawaiian adopted, Hawaiian Falsetto singer.
All in all a random, but fun day!! We even watched a movie, but that's for another blog!!
- I FINALLY got my stimulus check. After some thought and with it in hand, it dawned on me that we didn't receive a Federal Refund this year, in fact we paid them. So I'm not sure if that status caused my check to come a.) SUPER LATE and b.) in paper form and not direct deposit. But in the end I got it and I cashed it!
- The VOG is still here and thicker than ever. I was watching the news the other night and saw that apparently for the first time in history or something there's 2 craters releasing plumes of smoke on the Big Island. I guess that coupled with our variable winds are creating this thick haze. I also never realized how much I took our sunny skies for granted. I definitely appreciate them more now! I can't imagine how some people live in this kind of weather 9 months out of the year! But a three day weekend is coming up and we're having a birthday party on Memorial Day, so I'm hoping it all clears up.
- Shorty story - me and the husband own two cars. Ones an automatic and ones a standard transmission. I attempted to learn how to drive the standard and in the event a life depended upon it, I could probably drive a standard vehicle, but as for everyday driving I prefer my automatic. Since I could hear the rain outside my window since about 5 am I decided I'd drive instead of catch the bus today. I woke up a few minutes later, took a few minutes longer, but finally walked out to my garage at 6:35. Open the door...only the standard car (which I don't even have a key for) is sitting in my garage!! (Side note: the hubby uses the standard car EVERYDAY to go to work. It's a little piece of crap car we bought specifically for him to use back and forth to work. My Expedition, is supposed to stay home while I catch the bus. So that's why the surprise when I get to the garage!) Holy crap...the bus comes at 6:40. Well it's still raining, so now I have run up 2 flights of stairs to grab my umbrella. Half way down my street I see the bus come up, I figure I have about 90 seconds to get to the second bus stop, which I know isn't going to happen because alot of schools are out and there isn't as many people getting on the bus making each stop quicker than usual. Well as you suspected I missed that bus, there's another bus on the main road...I'm walking as fast as I can (cuz I don't wanna look dumb if I run, slip and fall) in the rain and humidity...a combination I HATE! Luckily I get to the stop at the same time as the next bus stop. My irritation?? Would it have killed Taei to let me know? That way I would've woken up my usual time been out there door and waiting for the bus like I normally do?
Well whatever...I'm here at work, when I'd rather be sleeping or vegg'n out in front of the tv! Happy Thursday People!
